The Desert of the Tartars

Il deserto dei Tartari (Original Title)

Considered by Italian critics to be one of the country's finest films of the 1970s, the film tells the story of Lieutenant Trogo, sent to the castle of Bastiano on the imperial frontier in the "Tatar desert" with a passionate desire to serve his country and build up his reputation, looking forward to annihilating the enemy, but the long-awaited enemy never shows up. Lieutenant Trogo, like all his predecessors, eventually exhausted his will and his life, only to be rewarded with a sigh of relief.
