Hirokazu Koreeda

After graduating from Waseda University in 1987 with a degree in Literature and Arts, he joined TV MAN UION Productions, where he worked mainly on television documentaries, and made his feature film debut in 1995 with his film adaptation of Teru Miyamoto's novel Light of Illusion, which won the competition and other awards at the Venice Film Festival. The film has attracted a lot of attention and has won numerous awards in Japan and overseas, and has also been a hit with its lead actress, Makihoko Ekaku. Light of Illusion is considered to be one of the best and most subtle films of the 1990s.
