Grave of the Fireflies

火垂るの墓 (Original Title)

When the war between the US and Japan broke out, 14-year-old Kiyota fled for his life with his young sister. By the time they reached the air-raid shelter, their mother was already seriously injured and died shortly afterwards. The two siblings were left to fend for themselves. They had to join their mother's sisters, and even though they gave all the family's belongings to their aunt, when the food ran out, they felt more and more at home and Kiyota decided to take his sister and leave to live alone.
