Tilda Swinton, a British actress, won an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award and was nominated twice for a Golden Globe Award. Swinton was born in 1960 in Dunfermline, England, to an Australian mother, Judith Balfour, and a Scottish father, Major General Sir John Swinton of Kimmerghame, Berwickshire (KCVO). Tilda Swinton attended elementary school at The New School at West Heath, secondary school for a while at Fettes College, and graduated in Social and Political Science at The New School, Cambridge University. She was awarded honorary doctorates by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in July and Napier University in August 2006.
